The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved the Accra Sports Stadium to host Kotoko and GoldStars home matches in the upcoming 2025/26 interclub competitions.

This decision comes as the Baba Yara Sports Stadium undergoes extensive renovations, leaving the Accra Sports Stadium as the only approved venue in Ghana for CAF matches at this time.

Asante Kotoko and Bibiani GoldStars, Ghana’s representatives in the Confederation Cup and Champions League respectively, will utilize the Accra Sports Stadium for their home fixtures.

Kotoko is set to face Nigerian side Kwara United, with their first leg scheduled between September 19 and 21, 2025. The return leg will take place in Nigeria from September 26 to 28.

Meanwhile, GoldStars, winners of the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League, will contend with Algerian giants JS Kabylie over the same dates, hosting the initial leg in Accra before travelling for the decisive return match.

These fixtures mark a crucial stage in both competitions as Ghanaian clubs seek to make strong showings on the continental stage.

CAF’s approval comes despite the Accra Sports Stadium not fully meeting international standards.

The association has granted a temporary pass for the stadium to host the preliminary rounds of the Confederation Cup and Champions League, reflecting both the urgency and the challenges faced by Ghanaian football infrastructure.
