President John Dramani Mahama warmly welcomed the Black Queens to the Jubilee House on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, following their impressive third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Morocco.
In recognition of the team’s outstanding performance and resilience throughout the tournament, President Mahama made a donation of an undisclosed sum to the national women’s football team as a gesture of appreciation and support.
The Black Queens secured the bronze medal after a dramatic penalty shootout win against South Africa, marking Ghana’s first WAFCON podium finish in nearly a decade. Their performance rekindled national pride and optimism for the future of women’s football in Ghana.
This presidential donation follows a wave of national acclaim for the Black Queens, who were welcomed home to Ghana with enthusiastic celebrations at Kotoka International Airport on July 28, 2025.
Earlier on the same day as the Jubilee House reception, the Minority Caucus of Parliament donated GHC 100,000 in cash directly to the team, highlighting the broader political support for women’s sports development in the country.
President Mahama’s contribution, while undisclosed in amount, complements these efforts and symbolizes continued investment in empowering Ghanaian women athletes.
It sends a message of encouragement for the Black Queens to build on their success and strive for even greater achievements on both African and global football stages.
