Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has openly criticized club administrators following a series of violent incidents at league match venues.
Describing them as “clueless,” Adams expressed deep concern over the ongoing hooliganism that continues to tarnish the reputation of Ghanaian football. His remarks come amid a troubling trend of violence that has plagued recent matches, prompting calls for urgent reforms within the sport’s management.
Week 33 of the Ghana Premier League was marred by chaos during the intense fixture between Basake Holy Stars and Nations FC at the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena. The violence escalated to the point where the game had to be abandoned, after Nations FC reported that their chairman, Dr. Kyei, was assaulted along with club president Mr. Divine Kyei Boadu. The incident created an unsafe environment for players, officials, and fans alike, casting a shadow over the league’s integrity.
Reacting to the violence in an interview with Sporty FM, Adams condemned the management of clubs and emphasized the need for better education for club owners.
“What I have seen and know what we must do is to have proper education of club owners. They need serious education even before the fans. Some club owners seem not to be up to the task beyond just owning the clubs” he stated.
Adams further criticized the management’s cluelessness about the sport’s core values, asserting that “some management clearly seem not to understand, they are so clueless about what football is all about.”
His comments underscore the urgency for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and club owners to implement stricter measures to curb violence and promote discipline within the league.
