The Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a statement eulogising former Ghana international, Junior Agogo barely an hour after news broke about his demise.

Agogo’s death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from Ghanaians on social media including the General Secretary of the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana, Tony Baffoe as well as former strike partner and Black Stars General Captain Asamoah Gyan.

“You epitomised a phrase in our national anthem ‘Bold to defend’ and as it were, the privilege and the pride to represent your country with the Black Stars. Indeed, you will be fondly remembered for the memories. RIP Junior Agogo,” a statement on the ministry’s Twitter account read.

For his part, Mr Baffoe tweeted: “May his soul rest in perfect peace – rest well Junior Agogo” while Gyan posted: “Gutted. Thanks for the memories JUNIOR”.

Multiple reports indicate that the former Nottingham Forest striker passed away on Thursday morning in London. He was 40.
