Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has declared that Ghana’s push for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is about more than just qualifying, it’s about making a significant impact on football’s biggest stage.
Speaking on Joy News , Kofi Adams expressed confidence that the Black Stars aim to replicate and even surpass the memorable run they made at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Recalling Ghana’s near historic semi-final berth in 2010, Adams said, “I think this time around also, we will not just go to the World Cup to just add to the numbers. We want to go there and let people feel our presence just the same way they did in South Africa in 2010. We want the world should feel our presence.”
His remarks highlighted the ambition behind the current campaign and a desire to restore Ghana’s status as a global football powerhouse.
The Sports Minister’s comments followed Ghana’s commanding 5-0 victory over the Central African Republic in Morocco, a result that moved the Black Stars within just one point of securing qualification.
Four of the five goals were scored in the second half, helping Ghana maintain a three-point lead at the top of Group I and reigniting dreams of a return to World Cup competition.
He emphasized that the national team’s mindset has evolved, focusing not only on making it to the Mundial but also on delivering performances that command respect on the world stage.
This shift signifies a renewed confidence and purpose, aiming to leave a lasting impression beyond mere participation.
With the Black Stars poised to conclude their qualifying matches soon, Ghanaian fans have renewed hope of witnessing their team return to the global spotlight and carry the legacy of past glories into the next World Cup tournament co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
