President Donald Trump has forced Defence Secretary James Mattis to leave his post early, appointing an acting successor. This comes after James Mattis had policy differences with Mr Trump.
Though Mr. Mattis offered to stay on the job until February next year, he now would exit on January 1 after Mr Trump reportedly balked at a media coverage of his exit. Deputy Defence Secretary Patrick Shanahan is expected to take over the role.
