Ghanaian rapper and singer, Medikal, born Samuel Adu Frimpong, has said he faces no real competition in the Artist of the Year category at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs), adding that he deserves the award if fairness prevails.
“I don’t have any threat in the Artist of the Year category,” he said.
Speaking on Hitz FM today, the “Shoulder” hitmaker said a win for him would be justified and well received by the public.
“You know, if we are being fair, I think it would be very fair, very well deserved. If they give the award to Medikal, Ghana would be happy,” he said.
The musician insisted his position was not driven by ego.
“And I know what I’m saying because, you see, I’m not selfish,” he added.
Medikal has been one of the most consistent Ghanaian artistes in the year under review, with multiple hit singles, high-profile collaborations and sold-out concerts both locally and internationally.
His comments come as anticipation builds ahead of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards on May 9, 2026, where the Artist of the Year prize remains the most coveted. Other contenders include Black Sherif, Wendy Shay, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie and Diana Hamilton.
The Artist of the Year award typically considers an artiste’s impact, releases, performances and overall influence within the eligibility period.
