The IGP, David Asante Appeatu says he was not aware of the deployment of the SWAT Team by the National Security.

When he took his turn at the Emile Short Commission of Enquiry looking  into the circumstances that caused the disturbances  during  the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Mr Appeatu said  National Security refused to tell the police what activities it intended to carry out with regards to the by-election.

He admitted the security lapses that occurred during the by-election and said it calls for proper collaboration and coordination among all the security agencies .

On whether or not it is appropriate to use social media such as whatsApp to convey security details among officers, the IGP said it is normal.

When the Commission asked the IGP when his committee will end its sitting, he said they are currently awaiting hospital and forensic reports and also looking to interrogate police officers who were seen in the SWAT operations.

The IGP also suggested ways through which vigilantism, which appears to be  at the core of the disturbances can be addressed.
