Chief Executive Officer and Founder of VODEC Africa, Daniel Asomani, has urged emerging African leaders and diplomats to build their leadership journeys on integrity, reputation, and character, describing the three values as critical tools for success and influence.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the YDA Model African Union Conference 2026 hosted by The Youth Diplomacy Institute on May 13, Mr. Asomani said the world is not in short supply of leaders, but rather in need of a new generation of competent and character-driven individuals capable of solving real-world challenges.
Addressing participants alongside dignitaries including the Minister of State for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, Mr. Asomani emphasized that visibility and recognition alone are not enough for sustainable leadership.

He told participants that “Integrity, Reputation and Name” are three principles that should guide every aspiring leader, adding that every action leaves a lasting record that eventually speaks on behalf of an individual.
Drawing from personal experience, Mr. Asomani recounted a moment in a boardroom discussion involving the promotion of two individuals.
According to him, one candidate lost the opportunity after negative comments about his character surfaced during deliberations, while another candidate received overwhelming praise because of her credibility and professionalism.

“You may never have the opportunity to be present in the room where decisions about your breakthrough are being discussed, but your integrity, reputation and name will speak for you,” he stated.
Mr. Asomani further lamented the rise of corrupt leadership across Africa, saying the continent has produced more corrupt leaders than transformational and selfless ones. He challenged the young delegates to break away from that pattern and become leaders who will drive meaningful change.
He concluded by encouraging participants to challenge the status quo and create a new leadership culture rooted in accountability, competence, and service.
The YDA Model African Union Conference 2026 brought together young diplomats, students, and emerging leaders from across the continent to engage in conversations on governance, diplomacy, and Africa’s future.
