The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Niloy Banerjee, has led a delegation on a courtesy call to Ghana’s Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to discuss areas of collaboration and the country’s efforts to maintain peace and security.

During the meeting, the UNDP delegation commended Ghana for its strong peace architecture, as well as policies and initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and stability. According to the delegation, Ghana’s approach to peacebuilding continues to serve as a model for the sub-region and beyond.

Mr Banerjee also expressed enthusiasm about the Peace Index and Peace Map initiatives, describing them as innovative tools that could strengthen conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts across the country.

The delegation further praised the Interior Minister’s vision for the security sector and reaffirmed the UNDP’s commitment to supporting programmes that promote peace, security and national development.

For his part, Mr Mohammed-Mubarak underscored the importance of collaboration between the Ministry and development partners such as the UNDP.

He briefed the delegation on key reforms and policies being pursued by the Ministry, including ongoing digitalisation efforts, the proposed Community Service Bill aimed at reducing pressure on the country’s prisons, and the Parole Bill.

The Interior Minister also highlighted the significance of the Peace Map and Peace Index initiatives in strengthening Ghana’s peace and security mechanisms and called for continued support from the UNDP to help advance the Ministry’s objectives.
