Ashanti Regional Police commence investigations into death of man allegedly assaulted by Police patrol team

One person is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi from gun shot wounds allegedly fired by Police officials.

The victim, whose identity is yet to be known, is said to be among irate youth who allegedly invaded the Tafo Government Hospital near Kumasi yesterday because of the death of a man believed to be in his mid-30s, Kofi Opoku.

Kofi Opoku, a driver, is reported to have suffered physical assault by members of the Police patrol team at about 10.30 am after he allegedly refused to stop when he had been signaled to do so by the Patrol Team for reckless driving.

When our Correspondent, Nicholas Osei-Wusu, contacted the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Godwin Ahianyoh, he said investigation has commenced into the death of the man.

Five persons have been arrested while the body of the deceased, Kofi Opoku, has been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
