The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced a two-month amnesty for owners and users of uncustomed vehicles across the country, offering them an opportunity to regularize their vehicle documentation without penalties.
According to a public notice issued by the Customs Division of the GRA, the amnesty period will run from 1st June to 31st July 2026.
The Authority explained that the initiative is aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance among individuals using vehicles that were illegally imported into the country or have not gone through the required customs procedures.
“The amnesty waives all penalties that would have been imposed should such vehicles be impounded by the Customs Division,” the statement said.
The GRA is therefore urging all affected vehicle owners to take advantage of the grace period to legalize their vehicles and avoid sanctions after the deadline expires.
The Authority further warned that after 31st July 2026, the Customs Division will begin a nationwide unannounced inspection exercise targeting vehicles on roads across the country. Any uncustomed vehicle found during the operation will be impounded.
The GRA noted that the enforcement exercise forms part of efforts to strengthen revenue mobilization, ensure compliance with customs regulations, and curb illegal importation activities.
Vehicle owners seeking clarification or assistance have been advised to visit the nearest Customs Collection office or the GRA Head Office near the Accra Sports Stadium at Ministries.
