Ranking Member on the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini has attributed some unpopular decisions made by the House to Ghana’s constitutional architecture.

He said because the Constitution allows for Members of Parliament (MPs) to be appointed as Ministers of State, those on the majority side usually nurse Ministerial ambitions and as such end up always doing the bidding of the Executive without first taking into consideration the over-riding interest of the nation.

Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme ‘FOCUS’ which discussed the Special Prosecutor’s investigations into the Agyapa Royalties deal and matters arising, Mr. Fuseini, who is MP for Tamale Central said the Minority feels vindicated by the outcome, stressing he finds the development personally scandalizing and embarrassing.

Vice Chairman of the Communications Committee of Parliament, Andrew Egyapa Mercer using a case precedent by the Supreme Court described the conclusions by the Office of the Special Prosecutor as flawed and not grounded in law.

Mr. Mercer, who is MP for Sekondi, said he finds nothing wrong with the involvement of Data Bank in the transaction, considering the track record of the bank and the fact that the Finance Minister since 2014 has relinquished positions previously held in the Bank.
